So – last Sunday, I finally met up with my Scottish Catholic lady for a first date! Which makes her the third person I’ve met up with in real life from CatholicMatch.
It almost strikes me as similar to a nature documentary – one where you witness odd courtship rituals. I always end up reacting differently to the person in front of me because, well, because they’re different people!
I think I’m into her… (yes, I know; we’ve been down this wearisome road before)…and dare I say, I think she’s into me? Due to distance, it’s very much messaging rather than seeing each other in person.
A few elements that have marked it so far:
- She’s tried to quit smoking but recent baggage in her life has brought her back to the habit. Not ideal but it hardly compromises her worth as a person – we’ll see how that one goes!
- A passing remark of hers included her telling friends that I “made her laugh.” An interesting one because humour hasn’t been mentioned by the previous two daters this year so… a potentially good sign?
There’s also something to be said for the serendipity of our potential pairing – or the grace of it even. She’s just recently received some insights into a past relationship that floored her spiritually and have led to an extended period off-work. I, as this blog has documented in detail, was also floored by my own spiritual issues for most of 2017.
In fact, I spruced up and turned up to the date but the bit she enjoyed the most was our honest ending part – we both admitted that we weren’t quite our whole selves – but, thankfully, we seem to be on the same page as to seeing if and where things might lead.
Could this be it…? By it I refer to my main vocation being finally realised… or at least the path which leads to it beginning.
I’m planning on travelling up to see her at some point over the next few weeks so we’ll see!
Two things I do know: one – she has the most Caribbean-shade azure eyes I’ve ever seen.
Two – the hug we shared at the end was a clasper – I suspect she hugs everyone like this but it stood out for this year. I hadn’t realised my other romances had featured ‘polite’ embraces which were delicate affairs. This was much more of a snug body-warmth one!
I confess: I tried to plant a kiss on her cheek or some such but alas, the moment and my confidence both gave way too quickly! Hopefully, there’ll be a next time chance…
