Here is my long awaited return to you – my countless legions of readers and fans.
I am in the last stages of my secondary teacher training as we speak with about a month to go until that sweet summer break. Golly, has it been a difficult year! I’m writing this during my first sick leave of the entire year too.
New life developments – I got a job! Even weirder? It’s teaching English at my old school. A surreal, but so far positive experience. Teaching has absolutely eroded my social life this year – which is quite a feat considering I immerse myself in about 5 social events a year. As comes with no social life, the opportunities for romance dry up. My current workplace is full of female teachers off on maternity or about to leave on it.
My new school induction included a teacher younger than me who will have got married by the time we start in September. Don’t get me wrong – comparing this way isn’t healthy – it only leads to despair. But I try to avoid these thoughts and life continues to “ping” me like I’m a doctor being paged.
I am likely at my lowest with online dating – zero successes. The. American lady I mentioned in my previous post added me on Facebook and then proceeded to ignore all my communications. I have recently been browsing Plenty of Fish which often disgusts me with the attitudes espoused (still, beats Tinder). Once again, same old story – zero interaction. Occasionally, I’ll be viewed (upon having sent a message) only to be wholly ignored. That leaves a guy with only several conclusions:
A) I am THAT ugly that all visitors to my profile lose instant interest.
B) My profile (and bio) are sub-standard – this could mean not enough information or not enough of a “manly” attitude for visitors.
C) My mentioning my faith scares potential communicants away.
The problem is that I have contacted women other than my “type” and often ones who claim they are Catholic or at least spiritual. So where’s it all going wrong then? At the moment, I’m at the eye of the maelstrom but instead of wind and water, the phenomenon is made of inter-linked couples smooching and canoodling.
Off to Northern Cyprus over summer – let’s see if that can’t recharge my very, very wearied batteries.
